Vicki Shuck

Vicki Shuck

A native Oregonian, Vicki Shuck received her BA in Painting and Drawing from Oregon State University in 1975 and began exhibiting her figurative paintings and drawings at that time throughout the state. While living in Corvallis, OR until 1989, she also created a business as a freelance illustrator, a print-advertising designer and an art editor for Calyx, A Journal of Art and Literature By Women. With her move to central Oregon in 1990, came a new focus on painting and printmaking with the high desert landscape as her most loved subject. Since that time, she has explored other motifs and techniques in her work—artwork inspired by sacred writings and prayer, exploring drawing techniques from realism to abstract, and bead embroidery and watercolor and acrylic painting to name a few. For the past twelve years, Vicki has worked primarily in oils, focusing once again on the people and the everyday life around her. She sees them as “celebrations of life”—holding in time the moments that make up our lives. She has taught through the Artist in the Schools programs and continues to teach art to adults and children through community education venues in Bend. Her freelance work includes illustrating for a variety of religious publications and children’s books. Shuck’s paintings and drawings are in numerous collections throughout the US and abroad. With her husband, artist Gary Vincent and their dog Tobey, Vicki lives in Bend.
